Have you heard about shoppable Instagram posts?
Recently, Instagram has allowed Australian retailers to have access to Instagram shopping tags. This was trialled back in 2016 by the US and allowed brands to tag items with product and pricing information. This resulted in retailers being able to directly link Instagram images to online stores for easy purchasing. Now making it easy for consumers to follow a brand on Instagram and the ability to quickly buy a product they see on the business’s feed. Instagram has now made these shoppable Instagram posts available in Australia and will continue to expand this feature globally.
So what does this mean for e-commerce stores?
Naomis Shepherd, group industry director for Facebook and Instagram ANZ, said the move will allow customers to engage with brands in ‘fresh, immersive way’. Various retailers in Australia are currently trialling this. Myer and Country Road Group are the first major Australian retailers to explore this new opportunity. E-commerce platform BigCommerce has also partnered up with Instagram to allows its business clients to see how the shopping option could improve traffic to their sites. Incy Interiors was one of the e-commerce to trial the service and revealed that they saw a five percent rise in online sales.
These shoppable Instagram posts will continue to be trialled and excite many retailers as people naturally want to shop the products they see and love on Instagram. For retailers to use this new option they must have their profiles set to a business account, be the admin and use their Facebook shop or their e-commerce platform to upload items.
