We're delighted to announce that we're partnering with Inclusion's Designlab on their I Can Vote campaign for the upcoming Victorian State Election.
The I Can Vote initiative aims to improve political awareness and electoral inclusion of people living with intellectual disability and to overcome some of the key barriers to electoral inclusion within Victoria and Australia.
I Can Vote campaign aims to make voting information accessible to everyone, with candidates creating an easy to understand video that will build the capacity, raise awareness and realise the rights of people living with disability across the political spectrum; allowing them to make informed decisions about voting.
All candidates in the upcoming Victorian Election are invited (and supported!) to develop an easy language script for a short video that explains to audiences what they believe in, and what they support. These videos will be accessible to audiences via the C31 YouTube channel, broadcast on C31 TV and the I Can Vote website.
As many as half a million Australians with intellectual disabilities experience significant barriers to electoral participation. Access to voting is not only about logistics, but also about ensuring that people with an intellectual disability are able to make informed political decisions, and are involved in the political conversations millions of Australians are having every day.
Candidates videos will be produced by our team at Community Builder, the social enterprise arm of C31 dedicated to assisting the not-for-profit sector to develop video content optimised for social media, and provides opportunities for volunteers drawn from diverse backgrounds to gain hands-on experience producing online video.
